Pope Francis has appointed his personal secretary as a delegate of two Pontifical Commissions overseeing reform of the Vatican’s financial structures.
Msgr. Alfred Xuereb will inform the Pope on the working procedures of the Pontifical Commission for Reference on the Institute for the Works of Religion (IOR) -- colloquially known as the Vatican Bank -- as well as Pontifical Commission for Reference on the Organisation of the Economic-Administrative Structure of the Holy See.
A statement released by the Holy See said the Maltese prelate will take on a supervisory role in both commissions.
Jesuit Father Federico Lombardi, director of the Holy See Press Office said the appointment “gives an official character to a role that Msgr. Xuareb has fulfilled for some time.” (J.A.E.)
