CASTEL GANDOLFO, Italy, JULY 25, 2011 (Zenit.org).- On Sunday, Benedict XVI greeted the faithful of Les Combes, Italy, and recalled with “particular affection” the three vacations he spent in the Alpine resort town.

After praying the Angelus together with those gathered at the papal residence in Castel Gandolfo, the Pope sent his good wishes to the inauguration of the recently remodeled Salesian residence in Les Combes, which has been renamed after Pope John Paul II.

Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, the Pontiff’s secretary of state, was present in Les Combes and presided at the Mass to bless the refurbished residence.

The Holy Father wished to thank the Salesians, who are the owners of the chalet, as well as the authorities and benefactors who contributed to the works of the reformation.

He referred to the residence as a “beautiful spot, which was formed by the love of the Creator God and sanctified by the presence of Blessed John Paul II.”

Benedict XVI spent his summer vacation there in 2005, 2006 and 2009. It was one of John Paul II’s favorite places, having stayed there on 10 occasions.
