The primate of Mexico made that comment Sunday in an interview after Mass at this city’s metropolitan cathedral.
Reports saying that the Pope hopes to go to Guadalajara for the congress, health permitting, prompted some Mexican journalists to regard the papal visit “as a fact.”
However, Cardinal Rivera Carrera clarified that to “regard it as a fact is somewhat hasty at this point. I say it often and I am convinced that the Holy Father really wants to come, is quite decided to come here to Mexico.”
“But we don’t know what his state of health will be at that time,” he said. “It is obvious that the Mexican people want the Pope to visit again. But we must wait; we still cannot confirm one thing or the other; it would be imprudent.”
