Here is a translation of the words addressed by Pope Francis at the beginning of his homily this morning at Casa Santa Marta regarding yesterday’s attack at the offices of “Charlie Hebdo” in Paris.

* * *

The attack yesterday in Paris makes us think on so much cruelty – human cruelty – to so much terrorism, be it isolated terrorism, be it State-sponsored terrorism. But what cruelty man is capable of! Let us pray, in this Mass, for the victims of this cruelty. So many! And we also ask for those who are cruel so that the Lord may change their heart.
