The CISA news agency reported that a notice in The London Gazette, dated Dec. 30, read: “The Queen has been graciously pleased to give orders for the following appointments to the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire [OBE].” The list included “The Rt Rev Colin Cameron Davies, Bishop of Ngong, for services to rural development and the local community in Kenya.”

Bishop Davies, 78, retired Nov. 23. He had served in Ngong since 1964.

The Ngong Diocese covers a wide expanse of semiarid land, inhabited mostly by the Maasai. They are among the few Kenyan communities still preserving their traditional way of life.
