President’s Office Confirms Meeting with Pope Francis for Early Next Week

The office of President Vladimir Putin has confirmed that the Russian leader will make a brief visit to the Vatican early next week.

Mr. Putin’s “working visit” to Italy will take place Nov. 25-26 during which he will “briefly visit the Vatican, where it is expected that he will meet with Pope Francis,” the president’s office said in a statement.

The precise date and time were not disclosed and the Vatican has yet to officially confirm when the audience will take place, although Nov. 25 has been mentioned as the probable date.

While in Rome the Russian leader will be meeting Italian prime minister Enrico Letta who will chair the eighth round of top-level Russian-Italian interstate consultations.

Mr. Putin will also hold talks with President of Italy, Giorgio Napolitano.
