Bishop Cirilo Flores of San Diego passed away peacefully on Saturday at Nazareth House in San Diego.

The diocese reported that at his bedside were his cousin Dr. Tom Martinez, Msgr. Steven Callahan and the Sisters of Nazareth.

The 66-year-old prelate would have marked the one-year anniversary of his appointment as bishop of San Diego on Sept. 18.

He was born in Corona, California, in 1948.

In April, he suffered a stroke, and he was also being treated for prostate cancer.
