Secretary-General Named for Governorate of Vatican City State

Legionary of Christ Father Fernando Vérgez Alzaga has been named secretary general of the Governorate of Vatican City State.

The Vatican announced the appointment today.

The priest will assist Cardinal Giuseppe Bertello, the president of the Governorate.

Since 2008, Fr. Vérgez had been serving as the director of the Vatican’s telecommunications office, a role that for now he will continue. 

He has had various posts in the Vatican since 1972.
