This was the hope expressed by Gary Krupp, president of the Pave the Way Foundation.
He said peace will never be achieved in the region “unless the parties can objectively stand in the shoes of all of the people.”
Krupp, himself a Jew and most known in the Catholic world for his efforts to right the record regarding Pope Pius XII’s aid to Jews during the Holocaust, spoke of the suffering endured on all sides of the Mideast conflict.
“One must know the suffering of the Palestinian people. Specifically, the conditions in all of the refugee camps, including those in the Arab countries, must be judged fairly. The Israelis suffer with the terror attacks against their civilian population. Rarely reported, to this day rocket and mortar attacks rain in on the residents of southern Israel along with sniper attacks against innocent Israeli civilians,” he said.
Krupp and other officials from the Pave the Way foundation lamented “biased media” reporting of the conflict.
Elliot Hershberg, chairperson of the organization, expressed hope that the “Vatican-sponsored synod addresses the real issues in the region, not those intentionally skewed and sensationalized by a biased media.”
