A Syrian Bishop denied inciting local Christians to violence, citing the rumors as false news. Metropolitan Lukas al-Khoury, Auxiliary Bishop of the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch, denied statements by local media saying that he urged Syrian Christian youth to take up arms.

The Syrian prelate sent a note to Fides News Agency, calling on all to not give credence to newspapers that give manipulated pseudo-statements.

Iraqi newspaper “az Zaman” first attributed the false statements to Bishop al-Khoury several days ago, in which he allegedly said “young Christians able to take weapons were invited to come forward.”

Such dissemination of false information, the Bishop said, are “part of the same war strategies of Syrian conflict.”
