The meeting, which is expected to gather thousands of young people from the Continent in Lisbon, is being organized with parishes of the region’s three dioceses.
Some 2,000 Catholic, Orthodox and evangelical youths from Serbia-Montenegro are among those preparing to go to Lisbon. Last Friday, a member of Taizé, an international ecumenical movement, led a prayer meeting in Zagreb’s cathedral.
Other preparations have been organized by brothers of the Taizé Community in Italy and in some 30 German cities.
Cardinal Jose Policarpo, patriarch of Lisbon, had invited Brother Roger, founder of Taizé, to prepare this meeting in Lisbon and its surrounding areas.
Since 1978, France-based Taizé has organized similar youth meetings. These meetings can attract as many as 100,000 youths. The initiative seeks to offer them time for prayer and camaraderie.
Deadline for registration is Dec. 1.
