It will be the 25th European meeting of youth organized at the initiative of the ecumenical Taizé Community (www.Taizé.fr).

The initiative aims to encourage young people to do good works in their own neighborhoods, towns and parishes, the organizers explained.

During the Dec. 28-Jan. 1 event, participants will be housed by families or in schools. Throughout the day they will meet to recite prayers. They will also meet with individuals working in the local neighborhoods, and have the chance to reflect on sources of the faith or their commitment in their native towns.

Since 1978, this year-end European meeting has gathered as many as 100,000 young people for over five days. Meetings have been held in Prague, Rome, Budapest, Munich, Vienna and Paris, among other places. On some occasions, meetings have been held in India, the Philippines, the United States and South Africa.
