MADRID, Spain, JULY 19, 2006 (Zenit.org).- "It is the hour of the laity" an archbishop told the plenary assembly of the Teresian Association
Archbishop Julian Barrio of Compostela said that it is already proverbial to say: "The new evangelization will be realized by the laity or it will not be realized."
During the assembly, Archbishop Barrio read the message sent to the participants by Archbishop Stanislaw Rylko, president of the Pontifical Council for the Laity.
In the message, Archbishop Rylko mentions Pope Benedict XVI's appeal at Pentecost to all movements and new communities to be "schools of freedom."
"This invitation, touches your institution and your associations dedicated to the service of education, evangelization of young people and culture in a particular way, and exhorts you to continue building in the 21st century true schools of freedom," says the message.
"I bring to your consideration the urgent task you have to follow in the footsteps of your founder generating these areas of freedom, proclaiming to men and women of our time the full truth revealed in Christ.
"In face of so many fictitious freedoms that dazzle the young people of today, in face of weak thought that mistrusts the possibility to know the truth, in face of subjectivism and the relativization of one's own belief with the abandonment of truly human values, how necessary is 'an intense educational activity and a corresponding commitment on the part of all, so that the search for truth (…) is promoted in all realms and prevails above any attempt to relativize or offend its exigencies,'" the message said, quoting the Compendium of the Social Doctrine of the Church.
