Toronto Exhibition to Include Vatican Masterpieces

TORONTO, JUNE 7, 2002 (Zenit.org).- The Royal Ontario Museum will open an exclusive major exhibition, "Images of Salvation: Masterpieces from the Vatican and other Italian Collections," on Saturday.



The exhibition runs until Aug. 11, in the Garfield Weston Exhibition Hall. The exhibition has more than 100 artifacts from the Vatican Museums, the Italian ecclesiastical museums, and other private Italian collections.

Extraordinary paintings, sculptures and liturgical objects will be seen for the first time outside of Italy.

Among the masterpieces on display are Michelangelo´s early drawings for the Sistine Chapel, paintings by masters Guido Reni, Giovanni Francesco Barbieri and Lorenzo Lotto; tapestries by the school of Raphael and Rubens; and sculptures by Bernini.

The exhibition will coincide with World Youth Day, set for July 18-28.
