LES COMBES, Italy, JULY 9, 2004 (Zenit.org).- Taking advantage of a day of sunshine, John Paul II enjoyed an outing today in the forests of the Italian Alps.
A smiling Pope left a vacation chalet in the village of Les Comes around 11 a.m. to go by car to an undisclosed destination.
On Thursday, the Holy Father spent the day on Mont Chaussi, in the Quart region. There is a lookout point there from which he could see the peaks of Milius and Becca di Nona.
''The outing did the Pope much good. He seemed to have a slight suntan, when he returned," Vatican Radio said.
Before reaching the chalet, the Holy Father greeted numerous people who had waited for hours to see him.
John Paul II took two babies in his arms and patted a 7-year-old girl, giving them all a kiss.
