He arrived in the area Monday by helicopter to begin his 12-day vacation. Children and local dignitaries were on hand to greet him.

Mayor Osvaldo Naudim later said: “I approached him and greeted him on behalf of the Municipal Council and all, and I wished him peaceful days of rest and outings. Smiling, he replied: ´Let´s hope so.´”

The mayor added: “I found him well. As last year, I thought he was quite in form. I hope these days of rest will do him good, as they have done in the past.”

In memory of the Pope´s holidays in the area, a residence for the elderly has been named after him, and a little museum has opened with mementos of his days in Les Combes.
