VATICAN CITY, AUG. 1, 2012 (Zenit.org).- The Vatican Information Service (VIS) released its last communiqué Tuesday as part of a reorganization of the Vatican press office news service. The Vatican announced in June that the VIS would cease to exist as a separate office providing information distinct from the bulletin of the press office.

The Press Office bulletin will replace the former information service and be available in English starting in September. Some VIS staff members will be transferred to work on the multilingual development of the Press Office bulletin. Others are being transferred to the multilingual news.va portal, which was established a year ago.

The Vatican news portal’s daily bulletin has already been available partially in Italian, English, Spanish and French, however the bulk of the text was published in Italian, unless the texts were originally in another language. VIS had published not only in Italian but also in English, French and Spanish.

The archive of more than 85,000 articles in various languages, produced by VIS in more than 20 years of activity, will be available on the Web site of the Press Office.
