VATICAN CITY, SEPT. 22, 2006 (Zenit.org).- Entrance to the Vatican Museums and the catacombs of Rome will be free this Sunday, for the occasion of European Heritage Days.
It is a gesture of Vatican support for the annual Heritage Days event of the Council of Europe, in which more than 40 countries take part. The theme of this year's event is "Charity for Solidarity in the Heritage of 'Mercies.'"
The Pontifical Commission for the Cultural Patrimony of the Church, the Vatican Museums and the Pontifical Commission of Sacred Archaeology have all collaborated in the event. Visitors to the Vatican Museums will have the chance to see the recently restored Christian Museum of Pope Benedict XIV.
At the San Callisto Catacombs on the Old Appian Way, a photographic exhibition will be inaugurated entitled "Charity, Solidarity and the Catacombs."
