Archbishop Edmond Farhat, in statements quoted by the ANSA agency, added today that the Holy See would like Turkey to complete its reforms in the area of personal and religious liberties before becoming an EU member.

The archbishop said that the Vatican’s main criticism of Ankara is that the Church is not legally recognized in Turkey, a fact which Turkish authorities have made no effort to address.
