Established in 1983, CTV became an organization directly related to the Vatican in 1996. Its main function is to contribute to the spread of the Gospel by documenting the pastoral ministry of the Pope and the Apostolic See with television pictures. John Paul II approved its statutes “ad experimentum” in 1998 for five years.

The Annuario Pontificio (Pontifical Yearbook) describes CTV as a “television agency of information, study and documentation on the activities of the Holy See.” It also produces thematic programs. Its production is distributed by satellite.

CTV´s e-mail address is: ctv@ctv.va.
