Twenty Catholic radio stations will be in Kenya by 2020.

According to Fides, this news was affirmed in the 2016-2020 plan approved by the Commission for Social Communications/Waumini Communications of the Episcopal Conference of Kenya.

The strategic plan, a statement sent to the agency asserted, includes the development of a “strong media community in the field of information technology and communications across the whole country.”

By increasing the outreach of Kenya’s faithful, the Catholic stations are hoped to increase evangelical efforts.

Bishop of Kakamega Joseph Obanyi, who serves also as the chairman of the Episcopal Commission for Social Communications, said to the leaders of the Catholic radio, “We want a social and spiritual transformation of the people, we want to see a transformation of the human person.”

Founded in 2012, Waumini Communications, the entity responsible for social communications for the nation’s episcopal conference, reaches about 5 million people largely through seven radio stations distributed in dioceses across the country. (D.C.L.)
