World Youth Day Cross Headed to Ground Zero

TORONTO, FEB. 22, 2002 (Zenit.org).- The World Youth Day Cross will detour from its pilgrimage throughout Canada to visit ground zero in New York on Sunday and Monday.
The visit is intended as a sign of hope to the people of the United States and the world in the wake of Sept. 11.
The cross is scheduled to leave St. Michael´s College in Toronto at midnight Saturday. At 7 p.m. Sunday it will be at a Mass in St. Patrick´s Cathedral in New York. A prayer vigil with young people will follow.
On Monday, at 8:15 a.m., Mass will be celebrated by Archbishop Renato Martino, permanent observer of the Holy See Mission to the United Nations, at the Church of Our Savior (Park Avenue and 38th Street).
Following Mass, the Canadians will go to ground zero to pray for those who died there, their survivors, and for peace and justice. Representatives of the city´s police, fire and emergency services will also attend.
