To curb the spread of severe acute respiratory syndrome, the Hong Kong Diocese has suggested that the Washing of the Feet during the Holy Thursday liturgy be suspended this year, Father Thomas Law Kwok-fai told UCA News.

The priest, who heads the diocese’s liturgy commission, said the diocese has also suggested that there be no baptism by immersion during the Easter Vigil.

Last Wednesday, Hong Kong authorities reported the total number of people who had been infected by SARS had risen to 685, of whom 16 had died.
