Suárez Ramos, 37, is being held in the Combinado del Este prison in Havana. His mother Isabel Ramos told Vatican Radio: “I wonder what fear the government has that it denies my son [the right] to receive a minister of God in prison?”

The ACI Catholic news agency said Suárez Ramos, a Catholic, has preached the Gospel in the prisons where he has been incarcerated. Vatican Radio said the denying him spiritual assistance is a violation of a right recognized by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
