Musical Aims to Saves Lives of Children in Bethlehem

ROME, DEC. 10, 2002 (Zenit.org).- A new musical comedy poses the question: If the Child Jesus were to be born today, would it be better if he were not born in Bethlehem?

In “Good Morning Bethlehem,” God convokes the great leaders of the world — George Bush, Vladimir Putin, Tony Blair, Silvio Berlusconi and others — to find a solution and decide if Jesus has sufficient guarantees to be able to be born in the City of David. The surprise ending opens a peaceful debate on the conflicts afflicting the world.

The comedy premiered here today. The money collected at the box-office will be given directly to Bethlehem’s Pediatric Hospital, which cares for Palestinian and Jewish children.

The donation will be made by Monsignor Liberio Andreatta, Administrator Delegate of the Roman Work of Pilgrimages, which is under Cardinal Camillo Ruini, the Pope’s vicar for Rome. The city of Rome is also helping with the organization of the endeavor.

The comedy, the idea of Lorian Lara, aims to shed a ray of hope on the ongoing tragedy in the Holy Land. The musical, at Humberto Hall, will play until Jan. 15.

The organizers are considering taking the musical on tour — even to Bethlehem.
