A Representation of Values

Article: Remaining Neutral

The crucifix represents, to me, the values we hold ... and those values should not be a threat to anyone, of any persuasion or belief. It is a sign to all that our civilization and culture owe so much to the Christian faith -- as well as others.

For years I have a card with the prayer of St. Francis on my desk in a public school. Whenever anyone mentioned it -- sometimes suggesting I remove it -- my standard answer was that it wasn't a prayer -- it was a statement of my goals in teaching, and as such it was truly non-denominational. The prayer came off the desk finally when I retired.
