Society Wants in Leadership

A response to: Vatican: Obedience in Church Based on Respect

I first of all appreciate the beautiful reflection on obedience that has been presented to us. However, I have this comment to make.

In a Church where both those who are led and those who lead are human, and moreover, where authority can be and has always been abused, it is important that anybody who reflects on obedience remembers to remind those who lead to make "obeying them" a meaningful and joyful thing to do. Today we face two serious and worrying forms of poverty, namely a Church and society hungry for good leadership, and society wanting in obedience.

Reminding people to obey without reminding leaders to lead after the manner of the Master, has, is, and will always be counterproductive and questioned.
